This family recipe has been handed down from Betty Johnson Farnworth. It can be used as a breakfast cereal, a snack, or a topping. Yum!

6 cups rolled oats

1 cup coconut

1 cup wheat germ

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1 cup soy bean

1/2 cup sesame seeds

3/4 cup cashew halves

1/2 cup cooking oil

1/2 cup honey

1/3 cup water

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

In large bowl combine oats, wheat germ, and nuts. Mix together oil, honey, water, salt, and vanilla. Pour over oatmeal mixture. Stir well to coat.

Spread mixture on two greased baking sheets. Bake in 250 degree oven for 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Cool thoroughly. Store in airtight container. Makes 11 cups of cereal.

Betty Johnson Farnworth could often be found in the kitchen cooking, canning, and baking. She always had a full cookie jar and a special collection of salt and pepper shakers on display. She was the mother of 5 children, and lived from 1927-1998. Betty was my maternal grandmother.

I hope you enjoy this family recipe. Until next time!
