For the past three months, I have undertaken a descendancy research project for one set of my fourth -great -grandparents, Patrick and Sarah Donohoo. The generations connecting myself back in time to Patrick Donohoo are from my paternal grandfather, Walter Fredrick Corn, to his mother, Annie Lois Turner, to her father, Henry Turner, to his mother, Catherine Donohoo, to her parents, Patrick and Sarah Donohoo.
It has been a very interesting project, and I have pieced together many stories that I will be sharing about four generations of this family.
Statistically speaking, Patrick and Sarah Donohoo had nine children, 29 grandchildren, and numerous great – grandchildren. Over four generations, the Donohoo family migrated from Ireland, to Maryland, to Kentucky, and then some moved on to Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, and Washington, D.C.
The men of the family served in the War of 1812, and the Civil War (on both sides), etc. The family experienced success in business, prosperity in posterity, loss of property by a devastating fire, and many losses of family members at young ages.
While their stories do span across two countries, and several states, the heartbeat of this family story resides in the small town of Bardstown, Nelson County, Kentucky, where the majority of the family dwelt from the 1815s into the early 1900s.
I will be sharing stories in a somewhat random order, as some stories take more time to puzzle together than others. I hope you enjoy getting to know this family as much as I have.
